It was decided early in 2006 that OFOF
should replace the existing "roll up fabric" doors on the Hut with a
set of rolling doors. Dan Cook volunteered to do the design,
plans and materials list. The design is such that it should
withstand an 80 mph wind. Of course, it is doubtful that the rest
of the Hut would survive such an onslaught. :-)
OFOF volunteers
Marv Hollander, Bob Foster, Ed O'Neil, Ron Turner, Joe Cook and Dan
undertook the fabrication and installation tasks. Marv did most
of the welding and grinding, Bob helped with the door frame welding and
did the forms and concrete stuff, Ed supplied rebar and forms for the
post bases and helped place the posts. Ron helped get the door panels
attached, Joe rented the Bobcat and dug holes, among other
things, and Dan was Major Domo and did most of the steel installation,
et al. Construction
started near the end of October 2006 and was completed the 2nd week of
January, 2007. The originally anticipated timeline extended 'a
little'. :-)
The Grand Opening is scheduled for the
January Fly-In Breakfast, 1/20/07.
Thanks
to all the workers, especially Dan for his excellent design and
untiring efforts.
