Forming an OFOF Starlet Project Task Force
Starduster, Les Homan and Bill Clouse, as part of their departure from Oroville,
donated the partially built Starduster Starlet project that Dave Harmacek
and Geo. Frazier worked on at times. The fuselage, wings and ailerons
are constructed to some degree. It is proposed that we complete the
project as an educational, and perhaps, money raising, effort and are looking
for members willing to contribute labor, knowledge, expertise, hardware,
et al.. We have purchased a complete set of plans, S/N 134. Major
efforts will include:
- Inspect and inventory existing hardware
- Refurbish existing hardware, eg., clean rust from steel and primer seal.
- Identify necessary additional hardware to complete each major assembly
- Determine order of completion of major assemblies
- Procure hardware as necessary (scrounge, find used, buy new, get more donations)
- Complete (cover, et al) left wing, right wing, controls, brake system, fuel system, instruments, wiring, fuselage, et al
- Determine engine choice, get engine
- Build engine systems, eg., mount, intake, exhaust, et al
- Check out engine on OFOF test stand (donated by Neil Rabon)
- Assemble, inspect and shakedown systems.
- Fly It!
- Sell it, either complete or as parts depending on liability paranoia.
We are currently taking signups for the Task Force. Send your name
and email address to Joe Cook, Group Leader, pro tem, to get on the team.
We will have web pages on our website dedicated to the project and
will have a Starlet Forum for group discussions, decisions and action logging.
This project should be fun and educational with a nice end product.
